OK tomorrow morning at 7 am should be a skydive from 22,000 feet. It was rained out last year, so let's see if we can try again this year (Summerfest Boogie in Ottawa, IL). Just finished work now ... sleep early, dining in the city tomorrow.

Chris Collura replied to Carson Eads's comment.

Yeah 10 feet is really close. My only point was about privacy may only exist (most of the time) behind CLOSED doors.

Flying a drone at 10 feet over a family is akin to driving across their lawn instead of on the street in front of their house. There's an eventual "line" that becomes a violating factor when it's crossed.

Ever see what it takes to strip down a jet engine just to repair / replace a broken (usualky FOD) compressor blade? Basically the entire engine has to be taken apart ... by HAND to get to that blade ... and can take weeks or even a month on a engine stand at a shop, often away from the airport where the engine less plane is sitting :(

Imagine the labor costs alone?

AgentJZ has information on his channel about such repairs. Interesting to check his YT channel out.

Chris Collura replied to Dave Lewison's comment.

The screen itself would also create drag and fuel efficiency issues, more complicated designs of the engine inlet, and the screen itself may be more likely to fail if struck at high speeds causing more FOD (foreign object damage) to the engine. It may stop small birds or bugs only.

Looking north from over far NW Nebraska at 40,000 feet, a highly zoomed shot (350 miles away), we see the Tilston, Manitoba supercell looming over the horizon to the north of the US Canadian border late in the day on July 27, 2015. The storm produced a violent long track tornado that was on the ground for a staggering 2-4 HOURS!

Exactly, Will Wilkens ... As an electromechanical device ... it's not perfect. I'm contesting that crap and we'll see what happens. This is the 4th time in a year I got those tickets. The first one was because I was making a right turn and there was no turn on red and person in front of me (idiot!) slowed down and I was under the light as it went red (no turn on red). The other two were speed csmeras, one for 42 in a 35, and another for 46 in a 40. Those 3 I just paid as they were my mistakes ... but not like I was doing 160 in a 40...

Chris Collura commented on Verne Carlson's post.

I find those "super earths" also quite interesting. Some (the Gliese system) propose an ocean planet. The planet entirely made of water around a small rocky core. This ocean, hundreds or thousands of miles deep may harbor "plasma phases" of water and "hot ices" in its deeper reaches due to the immense pressures.

Hey Lori Ferguson it's not that there was so much confusion and the black women there literally throwing things (in addition to foul language) at the gate agent that night. We all (as a JR high school "class") got what we deserved due to those "bad kids"! After an hour and a half of busy signals off their customer service number, I managed to get the standard $100 voucher. That matches what you get for a delay, since the flight was NOT really cancelled cuz of the re in-statement. These ppl aren't as dumb as you might think.

Posted: Jul 21, 2015, 4:34 PM

Chris Collura updated his status.

Remember that SW Airlines flight that was cancelled after 12 hour delay last Monday? ... And we were all given $200 in vouchers (even after they re instated it)?

Now the vouchers don't show up online and calling customer service they say they pulled them since the flight was actually "flown" (ultimately)!

Everyone (who cheered and clapped when they thought they were getting $200 in travel funds) now probably are not very happy.

Time to call these guys.

It's ok in your ways or lifestyle but please don't dis-grace things like churches, religeon, and holy things!

And we wonder why the church hates them more and more...

One of those years ... Remembering the 80's once again when most people in S Florida now don't know what a major hurricane is, with major complacency. A decade without a strike and a threat very unlikely this Atlantic season would do that.Meanwhile - Like the mullets of the 80's - The Pacific rages on with "fish" storm after storm. This is Dolores, with 135 MPH winds, churning in the E Pacific well west of Mexico. But look at the tiny island there (uninhabited Isla Socorro) ... Anyone wanna be on that island now?

I could not chase either as I was stuck in FL on cancelled flights. I did however choose a virtual target ... anywhere south of Rockford to I-80 and points east. All was good until I got the dreaded message (flight status call) my noon flight back to chicago was cancelled ... I WOULD HAVE been back in time to actually chase, but nope, thar wasn't in the cards.

Low and behold my 5:40 flight I rebooked was delayed until 9:10, and then that was cancelled due to a mechanical issue. Now I am here in Ft Lauderdale airport with a free meal voucher, watching supercells pop in my backyard (N IL), and my laptop case that will serve as my PILLOW here until tomorrow morning.

I've been getting quite a few remarks on my "adventures" with things like "you spend money to do that ----?" or "you drive 1500 miles and wait for 18 hours to see one stupid tornado?"

One thing these people don't get is PASSION. That's what drives storm chasing. That's why I pay extra money to go higher skydiving or jump from a hot air balloon instead of a plane ... because PASSION is involved!

Ever watch the Discovery Channel or Animal Planet? Ever see a spectacular lion attack or bird displaying a courtship dance?

Many think they waited 5 minutes to get those brief shots? ... Hell no!

Some waited weeks or months to get them. Or spent thousands of $$$ and traveled many thousands of miles (often in more than one trip), dealing with inhospitable conditions, time constraints, taking off work, even dealing with political unrest, etc.

But when they get what they're looking for (lion attack, tornado, etc) it's a dream come true and all worth it. PASSION is a powerful thing!

And being a storm chaser ... understanding that it's 99% boredom and waiting ... I can APPRECIATE the effort that went into such footage (the 1% excitement making it all worth it).

Pay $$$ for rising gas costs ... I try to avoid any tolls like the plague cuz I hate paying just to "drive on some road".

Here in Chicagoland nearly ALL the interstates here are part of the "Illinois Tollway". So not much we can do. 30 years ago it was supposed to be temporary but they thought it was such a good idea they made it permanent.

As for Oregon. Could have been worse. Imagine forgetting your wallet on a 25 mile commute to work and you have to go back and get it? That'll cost you!

Glad Oregon is not a supercell state...

$518 for MDW (Chicago) to LAX at the moment here. Booked same for $320 on American from ORD instead.

Gouge it... Nothing to see there on SW. Move along...

Haze was thick even in western IL today. I was skydiving and noticed the smell at 8,000 feet or so. No smell at ground level.

No, Rocky Rascovich ... these were people I know since high school and made efforts to visit them when I was in their town or even nearby (for storm chasers 150 miles is considered "close by").

But when it comes time for the opposite I'm the one being not visited (25 miles away being "close" this time).

You would think that they would go 25 miles out of their way to make time. Or take an extra day out of a week long trip.

Lesson learned to to over expect anything anymore.

But when they are visiting my city they are too "busy with family" and what not?

I see a tornado ripped through parts southeast of Kansas City on July 1 (evening). This is why you NEVER let you're guard down and remember that weather does NOT wait until a date on a calendar (so much for chase "seasons")...

Hey Eric Treece ... yeah I80 too.

Funny seeing when the truck FINALLY goes back to the right, 25 to 50 cars (queued up behind over the 9+ minutes) finally blast by him in the left lane.

If I was that trucker and saw that I would have a guilt trip, but that's just me I guess.

I actually saw some trucks pull that crap with enough space in front of the truck and I just gun it and can easily pass on the right. I 70 is the WORST for that BS.

Very strange indeed, but WHAT IF a trough or trades crossing the equator (rare!) allows one to cross and retain it's momentum despite no coriolis effect? Seeing a anticyclonic storm north of the equator (or the converse) would be very bizarre and won't last long though. Very intetesting seeing these two storms moving along in tandem like that ... like a man and a woman with a fence in between them.
