I fueled up in Aurora, IL a few weeks back and the sign said $3.19 but while fueling up the pump said $2.89. Not bad and never said "boo" :)

Make sure it's not near the Ocala "tourist trap" alley where cash is advertised the same as credit on the sign UNTIL you start pumping the gas and realize you need to buy oranges or alligator key chains to get the cash price :(

Regardless of what the hell is going on politically or socially as a whole ... Try more to focus more on yourself.

Do too many favors or be too nice to some friends and family (big words here is TOO NICE ... Something my mom always resented me for) ... Then YOU will be the one looking like a total IDIOT.

You are talking about that DISASTER that ILDOT decided to do in a 30 mile stretch west of I39 / Rochelle on I88? What a freaking mess!

The speed limit is 45 but big trucks on there go 35 at best. Go 5 more miles south on I39 to highway 20 west, to about Dixon or Rock Springs, and you'll catch up with I88 there PAST all that -- and there's NO toll going west from there!

Not gonna pay to use a high speed road that's not.

I used to have a 4 b/r 3 bath house. My electric bill averaged $250 a month. I replaced all the incandescent bulbs with CFL lights (this was 2003) and spent about $150 on all the bulbs. The electric bill was $125 the following month. I guess I was afraid of the dark. Cut the bill in half and paid for most of the bulbs in just over a month from the savings!

All I got to say about what's been going on lately is that I always was one of those open minded guys...

The only thing I really hate is HATE itself. It's a horrible thing and hurts, rejects, loathes, starts wars, and kills.

If you're gay ... I don't care. You're still my friend. If you're not, same thing. As long as you are a good person - that's what I see.

I'm not gonna get into this "against God stuff". Many gay people were predisposed to it and that's the way they are. They can't help it. You cannot just "fix" it.

That's ALL I'm gonna say about that because I don't want to get into any heated discussions ... Like the ones about peanut butter jelly and rebel flags - no way.

Being very bad ... people who are terrorists, murderers, hate crimes - that's right ... If YOU beat up / kill people because they're black, Jewish, Asian, gay, etc ... Then YOU are the one against God (sorry guys).

Just live right and love people. Honor your friends and family. Embrace what you have. Enjoy your passions (storm chasing included)! Stop focusing on things to hate about people.

That scene was nuts. Clouds all racing overhead in so many directions. One local from the gas station asks us "where is the tornado forming?" ... I reply with "Right HERE!" while seeing a velocity couplet right smack over us!

Luckily outflow undercut it and saved the town. Still might have been a brief touchdown.

Boy it sure looks like I overlooked the MCS effects from this morning. I'm almost considering not heading out unless I can make it was out near Des Moines in time. Morning crap-vection again averts tornado formation in IA / IL as it seems. But who knows?

This happened Monday and we STILL had tornadoes.

Headed out southwest towards SE Iowa after working here in W Chicago suburbs for few hours. Once again, there will be a threat of severe storms starting from near Des Moines and migrating into N IL this evening and tonight.

Morning MCS is not terribly intense and should be dissapating by 17z allowing for intense heating ... Heck I pulled a forecast sounding for 0z SE of Des Moines and saw 5,500 CAPE and a helicity of 452 ... yikes!

Hey Jason Foster ... I actually got a chuckle driving out of Florida and through Georgia seeing those flags flying.

I thought of it as strange because it seems like those folks want to stay separated from the rest of the nation and never seemed to let go after the civil war in a sense.

We are a SINGLE nation since the late 19th century. One flag is enough...

I was tempted ... oh so tempted to blast west to that storm SE of Des Moines. I was farther east so I "ran into" the Muscatine (to produce the Illinois City tornado) storm as luck had it.

Yes Wednesday is looking very good for Iowa. We're just enjoying life and getting out to chase.

Thanks a bunch Tony Laubach ... Amazing storm and also given that anyone more than a mile away from that in any direction would not have seen it. I was in the "bears cage" there big time and this was a rain wrapped HP storm! The closest I got was about 200 yards from it ... Then back away for safety given the storm mode. Looks like there's no sense leaving work after lunch to chase here (N IL), or is there?

The severity of today's afternoon storms depends on a persistent MCS weakening or moving out of the area this morning. And what's happening?

Yup ... a messy persistent MCS is taking its sweet ass time and intensifying.

Not sure to what to make of today's setup, but I'm on it, so yeah ... it should go to shit like all the others "I was on".

I see a few folks caught a tornado in SD today. But I don't feel so bad because if I was out there it would have been for last Wednesday to Saturday anyway ... and I would have once again missed it with bad timing.

1). Some deranged young nut job kills many people in a school or church.

2). The perp kills himself (saves prison / tax payers the hassles) or is caught (expensive).

3). Vigils are held. Cards are send out. Mourning and crying.

4). President / mayor makes a "comforting" speech (usually of false hope).

5). More greeting feel sorry cards sent out as victims families feel true essences of their losses (ie. House foreclosed because spouse killed was also supporting income, orphaned child, severe depression causes member to become institutionized, etc).

6). If we are lucky, a few months go by...

7). ... Repeat steps 1 to 6 above all over again.

Round n round it goes.

Late season nasty cold "bug" and flu still going around. Many Co workers and friends up here (Chicago) and in FL have it - worse than during the winter.

This was a year flu vaccines were only 2% effective (instead of the normal 60%). I learned this wasn't a media hoax after getting it TWICE this year, the second time being a dosey with food allergy on top of it and lasting 3 weeks and even making my storm chasing trip in May miserable.

If you are sick, STAY HOME. If you cannot take off work, drink plenty of fluids and keep the fever down with Motrin or Tylenol -- AND cover your mouth (mask) and spray the area around sick people with Lysol.

Quite frankly ... Many people don't have sick time off / can't AFFORD to get sick -- And simply don't want your shit.

Contrary to public belief ... the most severe colds and flu can happen OUTSIDE of the winter months. As a matter of fact, these viruses proliferate in warm climates and / or indoors. The end of the winter certainly means nothing to not catching a cold!

I used to handle these all the time as a teenager. I always was aware of the white exudate (venom) with this and other toads. I washed my hands and avoided touching my face (Esp eyes)! People with mental problems are often ignored and rejected and this exacerbates it.

What's really scary (similar to Cho in the VA Tech shooting in 2007 and Sandy Hook few years back) is that these individuals simply were not taken seriously.

Cho was looked as "a quiet and shy Asian guy", and trust me ... many of that race and demonym are - but there was subtle signs of something being very ... VERY wrong.

One of the victims was a person who got angry at him months earlier for having "an attitude problem".

At that point, Cho was well beyond help, unfortunately.

I WAS gonna be out in western South Dakota by this afternoon (June 18) but still opted to work another day and decide if tomorrow (June 19) would be even worth chasing. I might just stay put for more local stuff near me Saturday (June 20).

Note: A Pilger redemption does not look likely.

Yes today now is looking better, but you're talking between Montana and W SD, way out there (good luck to those already out and in place for this setup).

Friday I'm hearing talk about a surging front and rapid evolution to a squall line ... the "enhanced" risk SPC has out is clearly hinting at a wind risk, with tornadoes only during the initial stages of the storms, near the MT border.

Saturday looks to suddenly JUMP 700 miles east with the setup in IA / IL. Capping is also dominant in all these setups. Very tricky calls here.

2015 was a year such decisions can only be made HOURS before a storm event, not DAYS like previous setups.

Omaha, NE and Kansas are kinda lame this late season. You think?

(-- AND it's mid September).

Hey Dave Lewison ... that event on June 4 was on the edge of a measly 2% SPC TOR outlook. Only people in Colorado to begin with would have seen it / stayed over there. I targeted Kansas along with Charles Edwards and many many others. Many got a consolidation of some wild LP storms, but I HAD TO go east to be at important meeting the next day so I could not stay for that. SDS on top of that would have probably killed me outright.

Hey Dave Lewison ... this year had the next best thing to the Pilger, Twins on June 4 in Colorado (Simla where one was anticyclonic on other side of RFD with another simultaneously). I was suckered with 99% of the others to N/C Kansas that day and had to go east for work the next day so I saw none of that. There was just sheer regret that day for not scheduling my 3 days off correctly. Plus April this year worked well for me.

Interesting view of the circulation center of tropical storm Bill off the central Texas Gulf Coast. No one on spotter network is near the center.I am not chasing this. It's not a hurticsne, just 50 to 60 MPH gusts mainly in the intense bands east (right side) of the center. Dry air intrusion is occurring on the west (left) side.

Hey Tim Marshall ... I see the wave next weekend and another one after that the following (the latter way out in dream land model wise). I am eyeing these two up and I can chase these if I don't have to take many days off again!

Posted: Jun 8, 2015, 1:23 PM

Chris Collura updated his status.

Now with most of the severe weather ending and a quiet pattern coming I'll do one more rant on my chase year.

1). I'm not suffering from SDS since I nailed the tornadoes on April 8 and 9, the latter being Rochelle, IL. This was an awesome trip (but obviously the best in 2015 for me).

2). Mistake number 1: Fill your spare gas can BEFORE chasing and when you first head out. I backtracked to get gas on May 9 for an hour to find gas ... Short of the Eads, CO storm and never caught back up.

3). Eff-up number 2: Went out too early on May 18. Should have waited a few more days. Got discouraged after chasing "messy" junk (plus I had the flu and was recovering from that), and went back home May 26. Missed the May 26-27 tornadoes in Texas (Esp Canadian).

4). Big and final focker-upa: Had 3 days off available for chasing. Chased June 2-4 with time restrictions back east on the 4th. The 4th I missed everything in Colorado and cap busted in central Kansas (but storms DID form farther west ... but I had to go back east). June 5 also was missed tornadoes - Why I didn't just take June 3-5 off since I had 3 days and drive back on weekend is beyond me?

Third time is the charm, right?

Take these hard lessons learned and hopefully you won't make them yourselves any time soon. We all will unfortunately - No matter how "veteran" we are :(

Sure. Easy. Since I had 3 days off cleared at work, and NO MORE than that ... WTF didn't I just leave Wed (6/3) and come back Sunday (6/7).

Duh...

I'm sorry I CASTED THIS SPELL on you, Tony Laubach. Being in my shoes is far worse though. I had to abandon W Kansas on June 4 to be in an important meeting stuff in my office in Chicago on June 5. This was MY WORST defeat in 25+ years of chasing. And only a week after missing May 27 in TX (also because I headed back May 26). These things happen to all chasers. When it does ... man it SUCKS! Being Italian and from NY ... I just made repairs to my broken steering column and dash (that I fisted late on June 4 heading east on I80). Lots of sailors talk in my car and kept the music OFF all the way back to ChiTown.

OK ... Time to put my past week of crappy chase luck behind me. I'm not chasing today (6/6) but possibly a backyard chase tomorrow here in IL. Looking at more prospects towards next weekend but that's way out.

I thought I had this year all figured out ... Telling boss I will be out Tuesday through Thursday, then returning Friday at lunch instead of 8 AM, pushing it as hard as I can (leaving work Monday at 5 PM to make Kansas City by midnight - yeah great - It's doable but is it worth the fatigue?) ... To try to get something ... I learned this tactic DOES NOT WORK (as in W-O-R-K - count the letters) - Sometimes you'll get lucky, but most of the time you'll wind up "cornering a target" simply because you NEED to be "back" and can't go farther "west" (or such) - That's when the good stuff forms 100 miles in THAT WRONG direction. Murphey is NEVER on a storm chasers side.

MAJOR slump right now in my storm chasing career. Just simply NOT on the good stuff. I hope that damn ridge sets in and shuts things down a bit - I'm sick of missing stuff. Yesterday (6/4) I HAD to turn around on the Atwood, KS storm and HAD to be back at work Friday for meetings and such. Same crap last week. Not a good time right now being a "storm chaser". I am pretty much done for chasing for this spring. Unless something unforseen in the remainder of June / local chases, I am pretty much done for now. It's been great seeing everyone and being out there. My best days were April 8-9. After that, Murpheys law started to bite - Had to go back for work and the same place I was in a day earlier gets a tornado fest. May 9 is when this "Miami Dolphins" losing streak started - So I just gave up for now. Go Colorado...
