Not looking like much? Look closely, you can clearly see how the winds (over S FL) go from L/V at 20k Ft and increase to over 80 above 30 k Ft ... I guess NO more hurricanes for WHILE ;-(

This (simulated image) was funny (but actually VERY serious / dangerous). After 40+ hour without sleep, driving through Florida, I would see the next exit / intersection and a red "hot water bottle" atop it = My cue to PULL OVER and get some REST! These are hallucinations and your body telling you you NEED SLEEP now. If you ignore them, you'll fall asleep behind the wheel (microsleep) and probably be killed! Not uncommon after hurricane chasing and wrapping up such a chase!

Not much to talk about this weekend. A remise of 2009 is here as a stalled trough drapes across FL preventing anything tropical from forming / affecting the USA as well as quelling any outdoor plans. Feels like I've been grounded my mom and dad in a sense.

After baking hard all summer long - A cold spell appears likely in the Midwestern USA. Some snow is even possible near the Great Lakes (reminds me alot of the fall of 2006)!

As for folks down south, well 'meh' is what I got to say. In fact, the more-than-welcom cool down for most of the northern and upper-central USA may in fact spell the end of the hurricane season in the south. At least for a while.

Here's why ... Cold air and tropical systems do not mix very well. Also, and more importantly, intense upper troughs bring in wind-shear in the upper levels (especially with a developing El Niño). Tropical systems cannot flourish in that envionment.

Hats off to all who were lucky enough to chase Isaac in August. Ballz-to-da-wall to those in the WPac chasing typhoons (no 'shear' there, unless you look at some local's 'eyes' there) ;-)

The cooler weather up north is more than welcome, after such a brutally hot summer. I'm tempted to make a trip there as well!

TS Nadine continues way out in the Atlantic as El Niño brings in the shear and hostile tropical environment to the Atlantic. On a better note ... The Miami dolphins WON (finally)!

Ocean front off Grand Isle, Louisiana caused by the silt laden fresh water of the Mississippi River meeting the saltier waters (blue) of the Gulf of Mexico. The two don't mix well because of differences in density. The structures in the water are oil platforms (view if from an airliner at about 36,000 feet).

With the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific tropical seasons struggling to generate a strong hurricane, a different scenario of violence unfolds a half-a-world away in the Western Pacific with Typhoon "Samba". Formerly a category 5 storm, with 170+ MPH sustained winds (gusts over 205 MPH), the storm slammed ashore during the morning of September 15, 2012 on the small island of Okinawa. Although far away, I know some storm chasers in that area who were there, mainly James Reynolds who lives in Hong Kong. As of the morning (local time), the eastern portion of Okinawa can be seen looking down through the vertical structure of the clear eye, and I can only wonder what anyone there is seeing (a "stadium effect"? Fog? No wind?) ... The storm came in at 120 MPH sustained winds - Very impressive indeed.

We're up to the "N" storm "Nadine" for 2012 (another "fish" ofcourse). FL has a broad low over it, but high shear should preclude any development in the meantime. Winter may set in rather early in 2012. The "cape verde" tropical season may continue, but most likely NOT affect the W Hemisphere for some time.

After that, I got the "not interested" cuz I was not workign in "my area" less than 2 months recently - Thanks to some rich CEO snob who has his head up his ass. I've been single since 9/11 - Cuz relationships revolve around the "root of all evil" (what us Americans call "money") ... And a mad hatter in office now? Oh my... I think that guy falling is better off ;-(

Looks like a MISS for Bermuda by a long-shot (and the drier western side too). Leslie will be a cat-2 well east of the island with Michael (a "fish" storm far to the east 'doing a 2010' to NEVER affect land) becoming the first Major hurricane of 2012. Big difference a day makes and that's why I never got tickets.

Oh boy! Bermuda is a small "target" (for hurricanes) in a BIG ocean. But so are "trailer homes" (as with tornadoes) in the huge expanses of the US Great Plains! If this verifies anyone there will be looking at blue sky through the eye of a "fish" storm Sunday morning!

Long weekend is here ... What a past week! Worked at my office as usual, chased a hurricane, just sent out some video...

Going skydiving and visiting parents afterwards as its back to "normal" for me right now ;-)
