Yeah big point and same here. I am completely unable to chase until AFTER May 7 (taking care of health and dental work first)! There will be many more this year - Better setups too.

The sting is there ... The dentist drill, the blood draw needle ... Oh and yeah, and seeing this [TorPicHere] on FB in every other post :)

Close-up of SW Texas supercell (from B-737 airliner on 4/29/2019). Powerful updraft to left (note the RFD cut to the lower left!) and inflow / beaver's tail to the right.

Arial view of supercell storm over SW Texas (flight was from Phoenix, Arizona to Fort Lauderdale, Florida at about 38,000 feet in a Boeing 737-700). The view is looking N and the storm is roughly 100 miles away just before 8 PM CDT. A weak tornado and giant hail occurred with this storm on April 29, 2019 and was the first in a series of severe storms and tornadoes over the central USA over a few days in the central USA.Place: Verhalen, Texas (31.1264, -103.593) Address: Verhalen, Texas

SW Texas supercell (from B-737 airliner on 4/29/2019). Note the twin RFD cuts in the updraft to the left (storm cycling with new mesocyclone developing to the east / right). Impressive inflow bands from right to left. Note the "left split" smaller storm under the anvil to the right of the main storm.

Far (normal) view of the SW Texas supercell (from B-737 airliner on 4/29/2019). Note the dryline to the left west (left) and surface boundary the supercell is "anchored" on. Beautiful supercell environment with clear well-mixed low level air to it's south (the view is to the north). Note the smaller "left" split to the right and under the anvil. The main low-level portion of the updraft (just above and left of the picture center) shows two RFD slots denoting a cycling storm and two mesocyclones on going at this time (the "new" one being to the right).Place: Verhalen, Texas (31.1264, -103.593) Address: Verhalen, Texas

Good job to everyone who headed out and scored today in America's heartland. No I was not able to chase this week. Kinda knew today would sting a bit, but I just am not free to chase until after May 7. It is what it is.

Derek Smith, you did good today. Colt Forney, stop complaining. There are people much worse off than you (like your buddy, me, in the dental chair 1500 miles away today)!

Its the cost of living and what you are getting for it. I know several people who moved to NYC and are regretting it and / or flat broke now. I rarely even visit there much. Too expensive and too crowded. Plus after 9/11/2001 it wasn't the "same" anymore.

Even way back in 2005 and 2006, when I worked for a year in Lakeland, this was a nightmare. Obviously it's either still under construction or still a mess to this day (?) ... Chris Collura commented on David Gold's post.

I despise racism and such attitude towards minority groups. I have many Jewish, Hispanic, even Asian and black friends who are the most wonderful people I know. In my opinion the worst people are right here in the USA, mostly white.

Me being from New York originally and growing up in S Florida ... I was abused and shoved to the side because people thought I was Jewish (I'm Italian Catholic but that didn't matter - If I was "from Long Island" that's what I was stereotyped for). That type of behavior was absolutely disgusting.

The so called "white people" can be more hateful than any minority race COMBINED. NO one needs to deal with this nonsense. So sad.

Ironically I got 4 new tires yesterday at Pep Boys here in Fullerton, CA. Ofcourse they will suggest extra stuff (called "budgets" or up-selling), but I just say no to those services. Wound up paying hundreds less and service was pretty good. Just keep in mind this is hit or miss and depends on where you are or which tire shop ou go to.

That's like a cylinder of air 20+ miles wide and 2,500 to 3,000 feet high (1,000 feet is 33 mb ar so in a standard atmosphere) just removed / not there - And being maintained by the convection!

Chris Collura replied to Jasper Deng's comment.

Jasper Deng Also the right side is the worst area for winds and surge and with Michael that area was over low lying coastal areas so basically a death trap for hurricane chasing.

The eye of Michael was something a storm chaser may never get to experience (especially clear from the ground to 60,000 feet / 18 km as with this one).

Richard Henning Still for a pressure altitude of 9000 to 10000 feet that's a lot. I wonder if the most intense subsidence was in the lower portion of the eye and not at ~700 mb? Or maybe the eye being smaller?

John Beven Strange. I found the eye conditions at ground level hot and dry. It was a strange experience. Like an air mass in the fall in Arizona or New Mexico (but temps in the low 90s), giving way back to rain, wind, etc. in the eyewall with temps in the low 70s. Strange storm.

They need a 5 year warranty on these. I had mine 4 years (with the 1 year warranty expired and the remaining 4 years from a protection plan). I took care of the machine (garaged, oil and fluids changed, maintenance, rarely used in salt water, etc). Engine died. $9700 to rebuild it - And the "extended plan" did NOT cover it. I sold the machine after that. So sad I had to leave a sport I loved so much.

Colt Forney I was in Andrew too but I was barely 23 at the time. The storm came in at night and with a small eye. I managed part of the inner eyewall which was akin to being away from Michael's eye (but still close) in somewhere like Panama City Beach. Michael would have been horrible at night.

Lori Ferguson Sure was. Plus after 2013 the relationship (if you wanna call it as such) between my dad and I was never the same. He found a g/f within 3 months and to just recently complained and dissed me on why I could not find anyone.

South Florida is a place to go to vacation, retire, or die (with a big trust fund).

Anyway I did move out and I am in S California now with great partner Cindy (and 2,500 miles away from the superficial garbage called "S Florida" ...Believe it or not, the LA area ain't the hateful / plastic surgery place being touted around).

After that and seeing a guy like me can "succeed" after all, my dad finally stopped complaining and stopped telling me to "get a life" :)))

Tonight for dinner I decided to make some breaded chicken. Dropped a few eggs here in the doorstep. Not a big deal...

....Until I just was reminded of my mom singing to me making the chicken crust / bread crumbs and egg wash (she taught me that as a kid). And we were laughing dropping the eggs.

And about 6 months ago I dreamed her and I were making it. So "realistic" that I purposely took my time in the dream so I can SPEND more time with her.

I hate these moments as I'm in tears now. I miss her so much. Its unfortunate these moments hit me when least expected :(

Margie Kieper After seeing so many things cancelled or changing I learned the HARD WAY to just GO. Wait and you'll miss it since there simply may NOT be "next year" or "another time".

I also learned to choose significant others wisely, with understanding and respect to my passions and such.

This is why I totally despise anyone saying that "you cant go, maybe next year..." type of attitude (especially between over domineering spouses or wives). Nothing is 4 ever ... If you get a chance, do it. Not just Notre Dame but other places or events, such as airshows, concerts, etc. Sad...

Yeah I saw that on several models (COD numericals) over past couple days. Not worth dropping over inflated "Easter rates" on air tickets ($1000+) / rent-a-car ($70++ a day instead of $20). May will be here soon before you know it and we all just drive out.

This was, however, interesting seeing all this tech, but little (outside of going 4k maybe) for a storm chasing standpoint (yeah should YOU take a $40,000+ 8k camera outfit into a hurricane???) ;-)

Many film production and software was interesting to see as well.

Giving my birthday with the day swapped, fake expiration date, replacing each number in my 16 digit credit card number with a "1" or "9", fake SS number, just playing along and wasting the Hindu (Indian) guy's 20+ minutes. Damn next time I'll record this and post it!!!Alas, after 20+ minutes, he says "You sure that's your CC number?" few times and I say "Oh, yeah, it sure is!" ... Then the India guy says "Go f'ck yourself and shove that card up your ass!" --Click!!! (...Dial Tone...)
