Unlikely to make 70k. If you did about half that goes to expenses so maybe half that. A weather anchor maybe but again the expenses are very high (travel, fuel, etc).

Kathy Schumacher Toledo Exactly.
But forcibly is one thing. When two love each other, and one is under the consent age by few years difference - AND both are in love ... The older person shouldn't go to jail.
I've seen a Texas case where the girl lied about her age (said she was 19 instead of 16) and when the 20 y/o boyfriend was in court she TOLD THE JUDGE that she lied about her age and was sorry ... Didnt matter as the 20 year old went to jail and was a registered predator (not allowed near playgrounds, not allowed to use the internet, no computers, etc) when he got out. That part I dont see fair.

I've been on aerobatic flights with pulls in the 7 to 8 G range and just 30 minutes of such flying causes you to sleep 12 hours that night instead of 8!
I heard 10 minutes of pulling high Gs is like 8 hours of manual labor because of the extreme stresses on the heart, which is the strongest muscle in the body BTW.

In the case of Florence it was a bit tricky. If you didnt have credentials, you were turned around, no excuses.
One causeway was shut down (Surf City or Wrightsville, not sure) but no one was getting through, not even Jim Cantore himself.
The other option was Topsail Beach, with credentials you were allowed on the island but if the winds hit 45 mph they wouldn't let anyone on or off. There was no gate so I found this odd.
Later the police went up and down and "all press" (including chasers) was told to leave or be charged with possible trespass.
It was clear some folks in Wilmington and Topsail Beach simply didnt want us in their town, regardless of good intentions.

This is a chase map for tropical storm Gordon, mainly for September 3, 2018. The storm path (based on the National Hurricane Center) is shown originating to the southeast of southern Florida through the landfall point near and just west of the Alabama / Mississippi border on the northern Gulf coast. The box indicates the area where most of the observtions were done. The blue line is the chase path (terminating with a red "X" near Ocala as I opted out of continuing towards a second intercept in the northern Gulf coast, and turned around on September 4.

This is a chase map for hurricane Florence for September 11 to 15, 2015. The storm track (mainly the hurricane core and eye) is denoted by the yellow swath in the main map graphic as well as the inset in the lower right. Blue paths indicate chase and driving paths, including the "ferry" to and from tha main target area. Well said ... And how mis-understanding spouses and sig others blamed each other for other things causing loss of job or home (money problems) and denying the fact that 9/11 directly caused it.
My neighbor and his wife went through bad divorce after he lost his job (aircraft metals / jet engine part distribution company). Despite "worst economy" all over the news and such = she (who worked in pharmaceutical company and didn't lose her job) continued to blame his bad luck and finding work on his "hair" or "the way he dressed" ... After a year or two of that nagging and arguments, they divorced with him paying child support (when he finally found work) and couldn't see his kids often anymore who stayed with the mother...
...Meanwhile (In Hell) those dead terrorist (who pretended to be pilots) probably saw that divorce and went "yeah baby - The American dream for ya - Hah!" ... Absolutely sickening because my neighbors were one in 20 people I knew who had their love and financial lives ruined like that.

Robert Brookens Nope ... All that did was add some shade to the upper / mid seats and make the stadium "look cool" ... In my opinion they should have made it like the Marlins stadium near downtown with a moveable roof, or at least a fixed cover of some sort.

Looks like we have to treat "football games" just like flying on American airlines or skydiving. Dont go if there will be thunderstorms NEAR the event.

Decided to just head home after what I thought was going to be an awesome Dolphins football game. It started out well, then the rains came. No big deal, right? WRONG!With this day and age and insurance and lawsuits running rampant ... Football now decided to do what airports do - Suspend game activity at the slightest hint of lightning within a 5 mile radius of the stadium. Ofcourse, in south Florida (especially during the summer) ... This can be somewhat of a problem. The first delay was almost 2 hours, the second hour of which was spent baking in 95 deg heat and direct sunlight. The lightning was 5 miles away, so that was what mattered. This first delay was called 10 minutes after a rogue bolt lit up the sky (a bit late on that?)......Playing resumed, and after a few great plays there it was again - The dreaded anvil blowoff from a storm 5 to 10 miles away. And the call to suspend play again (with the fans all yelling "uhhhhgggh" in unison like at an American Airlines gate in NYC La Guardia airport over a cancelled flight, no hotel offered, and no meal voucher).Just said screw it and left ... 5 minutes ago (and hours after leaving), I see the game still on hold, and a big red MCS creeping and training over where the stadium is. I guess I'll treat a football game the same way a flight on American Airlines to NY La Guardia airport or skydiving = Any rain of weather = DONT BOTHER !!!!!At least the anthem and the game itself (picture) was good. And - Most importantly - The Miami Dolphins WON!

Very interesting report. I'm wondering if the lack of aircraft and radar data (doppler velocities) resulted in such an underestimate of the true windpeeds? It looked alot like Irma making landfall in Naples / M.I. Florida about a year ago with no second half and the hot convection confined to the right front eyewall.
Gordon was a joke and thank God you weren't "suckered" into that storm. I was enroute to the Alabama / Mississippi area (from south Florida) and just turned around northwest of Orlando seeing it just wasn't getting organized.

I've been watching some of these outlier models and some have Florence near Bermuda or the Carolinas. But for now this is becoming highly unlikely as the storm has already gained too much latitude. Also, the storm will erode and enhance the break in the high pressure ridge and actually "create a fish path" and most storms behind it would also recurve and miss the US east coast.

Angela Fowler I think the swirling of water in the bowls in the video is dictated by the shape of the outlet drain in these cases, and quite subtle. Toilet bowls have the water jets under the rim purposely aimed to cause the water to swirl in a particular direction.
The coriolis force doesnt affect small swirling at small scales and is too negligible at any lattitude to see.

Angela Fowler Actually the coriolis force increases based on the Sin (trigonometry function) of latitude (0 deg is 0, 30 deg is 0.5, 45 deg is 0.71, 60 deg is 0.86, and 1.00 at 90 deg latitude).
Hurricanes or typhoons rarely develop within 10 deg north or south of the equator. Flushing a toilet or sink will not make a difference within 20 feet north or south of it.
Plus ... The coriolis force only affects large scale systems like tropical or mid latitude cyclones - not micro scale like bathtubs and small vortices such as dust devils.

Cheaper for the passenger = more $$$ for the airline filling ALL the seats!
Posted: Sep 1, 2018, 12:09 AM
Chris Collura commented on Tech Insider's post.
This is because the main airline markets are dominated by point to point travel and less "hub based" travel. This explains why the A380 fell into Emirates as its largest customer since that's an "old school" hub based airline (Dubai) with long haul legs. Most markets favor point to point using Boeing 777, Airbus 3xx, 737, and 787.
The sad thing is that the A380 was designed and engineered from scratch. Unlike an existing design that's modified (like DC9, then MD80 / S80, and B 717). This "ground up engineering" costs billions of dollars.
This is also true for the engines. Most jet engines aren't redesigned from scratch, but an improvement of an existing and reliable design the new engine is developed from (such as Rolls Royse RB211 and Trent engines both using similar 3 spool core design). Developing a whole entirely new system adds tremendous engineering costs ... And if the plan fails that's a "tragic loss" for that company (Airbus!).
