I upgraded both my old desktop and Sony Vaio laptop with an SSD and was amazed by both the speed increase and reduced power consumption.

I'm the laptop I have an Intel 240 gig drive (back in 2014 for $200, they're MUCH cheaper now).

For my desktop I also have a Samsung 240 gig drive (upgraded that few months ago for $65). For that, all programs and the OS (Windows 7 pro) resides on that drive, as well as any temp or work / scratch directories - Such as those used by Adobe Premier or such. Ofcourse all the data is on regular WD drives totalling 6 tb.

For backups I have TWO WD my book drives at 5 tb each. Redundancy - redundancy - redundancy! !!!

This "appetizer" chase trip from March 23rd through the 30th is just about completed with some severe storms (including this low topped LP supercell) observed in the Arklatex area on the 29th.Always keep our fallen comrades in our hearts regardless. I almost wanted to not chase today, but I did. That's what those 3 (Corbin , Kelly and Randy) would have done and wanted. Good night and God bless.

Oh then I scroll down and there's details on PAYING for a subscription to get the button working ... We got 3 people dead guys!!!!

Currently sitting Texarkana for lunch looking over data for today's severe weather setup points north and eastward later on. I don't like chasing in this area but I'm here until I fly back to FL tomorrow morning so I'll chase. Sticking towards the southern portions of the hatched tornado area. Well see what happens later. Still sad over yesterday's tragic accident that claimed the lives of 3 storm chasers.

Tuesday March 28 was a chase day with frustration and excitement as I was able to work my way from the failed target area near Matador (Texas) southward to Haskell County for a beautiful stovepipe tornado! That aside, what caused MOST of today's frustration was hearing that storm chasers were killed in their line of work (due to a car accident). I've never intercepted a tornado while both laughing and crying at the same time. God bless those who lost their lives. Good night.

Sitting in Oklahoma City now and doing lazy forecasting. Not much of a rush to hit the road so a late checkout is great. Looks like a pretty interesting dryline play today (IF tornadoes form they should be very photogenic) ... Just gotta watch out for the hail :)

I was SUPPOSED to head back to Florida on Monday (27th) but after seeing Tuesday (and even Wednesday's) outlooks I'm like "noh, that would be just plain dumb" ... So I changed my return to Thursday morning (March 30th)! Gotta love SW Airlines and there "no change fees".

Today (Saturday) is down day after spending night in Denton and now in OKC for tomorrow (Sunday). Yes a lot of driving and it's so tiring (until a storm Jacks up the adrenaline)!

Remember that: "you can't win if you don't play"

Hahaha ... I remember this cardboard box where I'd keep my backup drives. If they were in that (f'cking) box for more than a week ... You get a fatal read error and the drive was toast.

Even removing the HDD and putting an IDE (or Sata) adapter on it ... you hear "clik! clik! clik!" (...of death)!

That box (seemingly just cardboard) made great "kindling" for my BBQ.

No other box after that ERASED and BROKE HDDs. Seemed like that box was possessed (?)

Posted: Mar 19, 2017, 8:41 AM

Chris Collura commented on Meteorologist Tony Laubach's photo.

Thanks Tony Laubach. I saw that same post earlier and I was like "what is this?" since I already knew the REAL shape and dimensions of the "possibilities" nearing Friday's possible SVR weather. At this point, we don't even know if this will be a squall line or supercells, let alone in the trees or chase able terrain yet. And probably won't until it shows on SPC day 2 or 3 to similar extent.

I laughed at that area depicted and just ignored it. I'm happy you elaborated on this issue (yes it's an issue) on the uneducated and mis-representation of such events. The hype alone is shameful as well.

Basically a Facebook (or 21st century social media) version of tabloids and propaganda?

Posted: Mar 19, 2017, 8:31 AM

Chris Collura commented on Jeffrey Lâm Hùng's post.

This works good on paper but you will need a "clear zone" and ILS system in an omni directional pattern to account for approach winds as well as landing patterns. Noise abatement and class B airspace would also be radically different. Finally, pilots will be challenged with landing and taking off in a banked turn, requiring extensive training and upgrades to avionics.

It's also amazing that these 100+ year olds are in remarkedly good health too. Here in the USA most people in their 90s have lived a long life, but the quality of health at that age is full of dementia, disability, etc.

The food and "simple way" of life there, and focusing more on necessities and no worries about cell phones or traffic jams helps too.

Also these cultures are not a hating group of people, but a highly religious, slow to anger, and "live the right way".

The Buddhist religion is amazing and a very healthy practice (where the mind is more important than your physical body). Plus it's a peace driven religion.

I respect that, Karla Dorman. And I'm so sorry you had to go through that.

Us storm chasers, or at least MOST of us, don't ever EVER want to see a town or single person get hit. It's a nightmare and the saddest things you can see. I never think of my property and family the same way again (after realizing how easy you can lose it).

The worst experience was Yazoo City in 2010 and stopping to help after an EF4 passed through. Then the next day I was back on a plane and in Florida having lunch. I felt aweful, like if I stole something.

I am absolutely FED UP with links claiming "get a free product" from anyone (at first assuming it's a gift) so they can get free perks and if I'm dumb enough to sign up I have to "committ" to a long term contract!I had that BS a year ago with free movies that turned out to be bogus, and more recently someone saying I got (up to $70) free food with something like "Blue Apron". Yet when I catch the deal as spam and inform the person it's fake, they take it personally! Money and friendships, ESPECIALLY on Facebook, does NOT mix. Wake up and realize that nothing is for free and that there's a fine print for a reason! No free food and no free movies - There just isn't any!Anyone remember those music clubs in the 80s? You know, where you buy a cassette or 8 track for a penny or dollar, then you're locked into a $50+ a month "club" for at least a year? Don't get scrooged (or unintentionally un-friended) - Think!

Yeah Dave Lewison, but that was what SDS, an over possessive g/f, and obsession did ... so I said screw it, went, and picked up the pieces afterwards.

Chasing hurricane Irene in south Florida in October 1999. 85 MPH storm with 13 deaths. No warning put up so work and school (college) was still on. I chased it, skipped class and called in sick.

Written up (subsequently fired), got a load of crap from my family, g/f also fed up with my "skirking" or responsibilities, and had to drop my class (missed test that day and couldn't make it up), retaking the semester delaying my graduation for bachelor's to June 2000 instead of December 1999. Had a warning been put up like it should have ... work and school would have been cancelled.

A mess? Hell yeah! Was it worth it? It's a storm so Hell yeah too.

Yeah would be awesome. But back in 2005 we had a ride along (my neighbor) in our group and he freaked out (over a harmless low cloud) then we had to send him back early and he cut my friendship and told everyone back in Florida we "threatened his life". No one rides along without a crash course in storm structure or previous knowledge of severe weather meteorology. The guy who freaked out did so because his over possessive wife thought him helping her clean the house was far more important than me spending time with him to train him on what's the difference between a funnel cloud and harmless scud (in the shape of such). But thanks to his wife ... I got the worst end of the stick for taking him anyway.

Crazy stuff ... Just showing how travel in the USA (no meal, jammed in metal tube 8 miles above the ground with farts and screaming babies in a middle seat in the back next to rest rooms, on an overbooked flight where you get a cup instead of a can for a watered down drink, and most of the ppl disabled pre-boards) going to a non exotic city can cost more than a trip around the world - Literally!

Yeah ... Typhoon season. I have some folks on the west coast that hood deals chasing those.

Funny I was going from Chicago to Raleigh NC for hurricane Arthur in 2014 and those chasers in LA chased a typhoon in Taiwan that same week ... Both r/t tickets were like $700. Just my flight was like 1/15th as long :-/

Posted: Mar 6, 2017, 7:20 AM

While contemplating storm chasing some of these early setups ... Once again ... The high cost of airline travel (during Spring Break) might make this a little difficult! This picture I attached shows what it costs to go from Florida to the "not so exotic" destination like Kansas City from say March 10th to the 14th, just for fun, on SW (as well as many other carriers similar) in the left image --Ouch!But take a look at the right image ... YES, Florida to Tokyo (Japan) for the SAME days - literally to fly to the other side of the planet - Is nearly $300 CHEAPER than to some small midwestern city in the central USA (!?!)

That just burns me up!

It may be only 50 cents or a couple of dollars ... But I often walk them to the shelf and show them the discounted price!

There's places here in south Florida where you can be sued for a "pricing error"!

Even worse is when someone puts the wrong item on a shelf. Like a $200 jacket on a clearance rack for $25 ... Always match the SKU or UPC (before complaining the "price ain't right") to avoid making a fool out of yourself too.

Yeah Alicia Speer-Short, plus the hassles my insurance gave me, that required legal action on my side, all the while me gear was probably in a pawn shop and the funds up there noses long before that.

Back in June hearing WilloughbyOwen's story about his gear and belongings stolen in California gave me flashbacks (but they too got caught and some of his gear was returned). But his chase footage was replaced by dog pictures (the animal dog as well as gang "dogs").

Not fair.

That's why ppl like that are given soap in prison to drop. Lol

Smoking is by far the most revolting and disgusting habit around (outside of doing illegal drugs)...1). Killed my best friend in 2007.2). Killed my mother in 2013.3). No one is comfortable visiting me at my dad's place (because of the "residual" smell)!4). I have permanent allergies growing up in a smoke filled house.I hope smokers kick their habits and LIVE!
