Settling into hotel in Tallahassee for the night. Hopefully something interesting with Hermine affecting the coast late tomorrow to my south. Seeing THIS on my desk after checking in was comforting!

Arrived at Orlando, Florida. Headed west and northwest soon to near panhandle area. Tomorrow late in the day is the time!

Currently headed to Orlando, Florida this morning (returning late Friday or Saturday morning) to chase TS Hermine if he can get his act together in the FL panhandle late Thursday. Huge blowup of persistent convection around the center of TD9 this morning. Rolling dice. Rather be there and bust then not be there at all.

Should I go chase a tropical storm or possible minimal hurricane on the FL big Bend / panhandle on Thursday. With free flight points what do I have to lose?

Good. .. we better eat it before shear and dry air make it "naked and stale" by the time it nears FL.

Might take a break from Facebook again. With the end of my Chicago contract this coming week and a load of mixed personal feelings I'm a bit confused on what to do.

I HAD a very good "encouragement" to spend the late summer and fall up here at an apartment close to the city but backed out of it when that "encouragement" (no names, sorry) went another "way".

Probably head back to S Florida (facing my daemons there for a bit), and hoping for hurricane chasing prospects, before heading west eventually to California.

11 years is a LONG time folks. For most people this pattern probably SAVED thousands of lives by now.

With my crappy and stupid comments from yesterday aside (yes, Skip Talbot was correct I was upset due to such a backyard event I missed). It appears no one except God himself could have seen this coming. It appears that when everything came together tornadoes were already occurring. I hope cases like this get studied!

Just a heads up on an app called "Personal Capital". It's a seemingly cool app showing a dashboard of your bank and investment monies all in one "glance". A friend showed it to me last month and I tried it. It seemed really handy...Until...BEWARE because this app SHARES your personal information - I know because I soon started getting sales calls and emails from people nagging me to put money in stocks. I mean sometimes a half dozen calls a day!Even scarier was that these sales calls or emails would have my balances and even bank accounts in them! Do NOT give this out - EVER!I removed the app and deleted my account for it. The calls continued for a while until I declined them and they dwindled down. Still getting spam though ... Just be CAREFUL of these things.Would you want strangers to see what you have in your bank / portfolio? ...Exactly.

Just an apology as I was quite pissed yesterday having tornadoes so close to me without even knowing until it was too late to chase them. I said pretty crappy things about the SPC I shouldn't have. Nothing personal. Nature was just telling all of us how much we still can't figure out about our atmosphere.

Looks like we had a particularly significant (or even violent) tornado near Kokomo, Indiana today. This is why the SPC outlooks and probabilities are seemingly useless in a case like this since small scale boundaries and anomalies cannot be picked up! Nature sure pulled a fast one today to say the least.

Right now I think the Atlantic will never match up to the W Pacific. Maybe going to Japan would be better (and even CHEAPER) than going to the Gulf. At least that's the way I see it now. 99L will go into the mountains of Hispaniola. Then we can stick a fork in it. But save the fork for some sushi before a big typhoon intercept! !!!

Gawd ... Apple iPhone is a total piece of GARBAGE when it comes to copying pictures to your PC !!!

I just love seeing 267 images in the "camera roll" and "1 image" in the USB window. Literally took 2 hours of finaggling and trying to finally get the "hidden" pics to show up, after uninstalling and re-installing iTunes and copying / recovering! Jeez. Seriously?

Meanwhile I plugged my Samsung Galaxy s5 into the SAME computer and played all my videos, pictures viewed, right from "removable disk D:" ... no magic, no finaggling, it JUST WORKED and all the files were there.

No offense for you Apple folks out there ... But if you're an IT guy and moved from Apple to Android (like me), Apple is a fruit, not planned obsolescence :/

This is a picture of the abandoned Sacaton open-pit copper mine to the southeast of Casa Grande. Arizona taken from a Boeing 767 flying from California to Florida at an altitude of about 35,000 feet. These open pit mines can be hundreds of feet deep. In this mine, the spiral terraces allow large trucks and earth movers to haul the tons of raw copper ore out of the "hole" and to the refinery. Note the "lake" at the bottom of the hole where the water table is reached by the great depth. The mine is about 900 feet deep and has been abandoned since the 1980's.

Flying in a thunderstorm environment is no joke. Here we are carefully routing around and to the north of a severe storm west of Fort Lauderdale, FL during the afternoon of August 9, 2016 while heading to a stopover in DC then Chicago. The view to the west after takeoff is ominous!

Yeah I'm sure it's not cheap there. It's an island, like Bermuda or Hawaii, and much is imported. Fuel I'm sure is the highest there. My point was the tourism and overrunning I see when I was in Niagara Falls, kinda like Las Vegas. Out there it's so pristine and un spoiled. I hope you see the Aurora too!

Posted: Aug 2, 2016, 7:43 AM

Chris Collura commented on Tim Marshall's post.

What a place! And unlike Niagara Falls with every gouging tourist trap, this place seems unspoiled. I'm sure buying a water bottle there ain't $10 USD plus a time share ad!

Basically you have two types of people (suffering from a problem with their life, health, etc) that handle their limited time left in two ways...1). Drag everyone around them down to the same miserable mental state (preferably lower) as they are using guilt, anger, and just being down right rude. You'll lose whatever friends you have, die alone (and faster), and no one will miss you.2). Try to live day by day, enjoying that time with the friends and family you love. Making them love you more (and when your gone leaving good memories). Also, such good energy may actually make you live longer!I've personally (and unfortunately) seen #1 above. Doctor told him he had 5 to 10 years, but he lived only 2, and the death was slow and agonizing. I also seen #2, and after being told six months to live, she lived 4 more years with a quick and peaceful passage at the end.
