Hey Robert Brookens / Jason Foster ... I-4 I guess is a decade and a half (or more) construction and traffic nightmare project. I recall shootouts on that road back in 04 and 05, from some road raged drivers from the bad areas of Orlando, initiated by "congestion" due to construction.

Yes I see MANY are not going this year and probably simply CAN'T.

I remember some years the cost was crazy, especially from FL. Being in the middle of both winter break for many (~President's Day) and such, both airfares and even car rentals are jacked way up. So I can see why this can be an issue for many ... especially when trying to save funds to chase.

In my case, I had free points to use (at my job here in Chicago in IT, I am reimbursed for expenses on my persons Visa, so I get points) ... So the entire trip (air, car, hotel) costed less than $75 (mainly tax and one day car rental for 3 days). The registration fee of $120 (with T-shirt) happened to be the bulk of the cost.

Had I not had any "perks" to cash in on, the total cost of going could have been nearly $900 ... Or TEN times my cost this year = Yeeouch!!

Just booked total travel for the ChaserCon (formerly National Storm Chaser Convention) for Feb 13-15 weekend in 2015. Cost for me is mostly the registration with free air and hotel plus discounted car rental thanks to lots of earned points! Hopefully see many out there as well as some cool videos for vid night!

Also, since this was the podiatrist, that poor guy probably was for a diabetic foot exam ... diabetes is bad stuff. I knew a fellow who died at 43 from diabetes complications. He had a 5 bypass when he was 36 y/o. Stroke a year earlier. At 40 y/o he was wheelchair bound. If this poor guy is diabetic, consider 52 y/o lucky. Jeez.

I had dizzy spells and panic attacks a month ago right out of the blue. Scared the LIVING DAYLIGHTS out of me! One late night attack landed me in the ER ... As I had chest pain as well. After 30 minutes and a battery of tests, and to my relief, the heart and all was fine. The culprit being caffeine withdrawal and mild GERD (heartburn). Then a month later came the $2000 co-pay, ouch! Always get checked out! As for the poor guy there, I would have freaked seeing that. Life is short and delicate ... make the BEST of it...

Amazing ... notice the "race track oval" shaped holding patterns that get set up. Each length of the oval is a 2 minute leg, so planes take about 5 minutes to circle once, with 2 planes in each level of the oval pattern. A stacking of several oval levels allows many planes to be placed in this hold, surrounded by airspace no traffic can fly "through". Interesting seeing the diversions too, as well as "bowling alleys" ... where many planes try to rush through a "soft spot" or radar hole in the storms! People on the ground just see "delayed" on the board and start cussing .. much less than the people trying to keep their cool in the tower or ATC! Thanks for sharing...

Yeah, Dave Lewison .. the gaming systems are overkill for video editing but may be an option for folks not building a computer from scratch. Hey James Hammett ... I tried the iomega NAS but it was slow. Physical drives right on the SATA bus is best. For backing up, NAS may work, but I use a cheaper 5 TB USB 3.0 drive I got on black Friday for $119 for that :)

Posted: Dec 23, 2014, 10:12 AM

Chris Collura commented on Jason Foster's post.

Yes ... I can still muster HD video editing on both my desktop and laptop (the latter slower at times). Still using Adobe premier CS4 on both. The 4K stuff will require massive upgrades ... One rule of thumb: If you invest in a pre-built system, focus on a gaming system (video editing works well on those). OR, like I did, build a unit from the ground up. I had my desktop since 2009. It's at nearly 6TB of storage (3 TB mirror of 2 disks / Raid1), 1.5 TB scratch drive for Adobe preview / temp files, and 750 GB windows C drive (good to upgrade to Intel SSD). 16 GB main memory as well, 3.2Ghz quad core. SATA 6. Gets the job done.

In the past El Niño years, 2002, 2006-2007, 2009 I see death ridges in May and tornadoes in June (except for 2006) where June can be very busy in the middle of the month. Plan accordingly, so make sure you CAN chase in June. Don't miss Pilger II.

I don't give a flying fuck about anyone involved in 9/11 who DID THIS to US ... If I was there, I would have shoved my foot up their ass so deep it would come out of their mouth. Those mother fuckers costed me (and I'm sure many others) A LOT of problems back in the 2002 to 2004 time frame including the loss of my g/f who blamed the loss of my job on MY hair length for example. Yet I struggled financially and with finding IT work too long after that BS.
