I was close to going to Bermuda for Ophelia (rapidly strengthening as of Friday) for weekend chase, but it appears the island will be missed by quite a ways, leaving Bermuda on the west (barely anything) side of the storm. Hopefully will be skydiving this weekend.

Just had my birthday as of 9/24 - Thanks for all the best wishes! The Atlantic hurricane season remains "screwed" for quite a while (from a chasing perspective). I see a ridge-west and trough-east pattern eerily similar to '09, and hanging in there for weeks (or even months)!

Follow the FISH ... That's WHERE the tropics of 2011 is headed ;-(Time to consider other activities besides chasing hurricanes.

TS Ophelia expected to be another storm to remain out at sea ... If you missed Irene, you probably MISSED 2011.

Radar (KICT) reflectivity image closeup of storm in Grant County, OK late in the day on Sept 17 (as it was producing a tornado). Impressive hail-spike is prominent as well.

Skydived and visited parents today. I saw the mini-setup for tornadoes in Oklahoma - Nice for all those who were on that storm! Still seeing if anything tropical is still in the works (or just chase the next setup in the plains if it's gonna be like "that")!

Weekends here ... Finally as Maria departs the far-north atlantic, tropics are quiet ... Any may remain quiet for a while (actually)!

Just watched Mr Obama run his mouth again on how to spend trillions just to make us all comfortable for a few weeks (without even thinking about debt - Like a broke family taking a trip around the world). I saw one manager of a flower company on the news comment: "That won't make me hire more people, but Obama stopping by and buying flowers would help." (how true's that)? - I'm more interested in what the tropics will dish out (to chase) before September's out.

FISH anyone?

The tropics in the Atlantic basin remain VERY active. However (yes, the catch is here, we all knew that) ... The USA SHOULD be well-protected as Katia AND Maria WILL recurve out to sea (sorry chasers - If you missed Irene, shame-on-U). Nate in the southern GOM should move W into Mexico. I guess we are "between the violence" for now.

September 11, 2001 was a very sad day for America ... So this little graphic has been placed here for the honor and memories of that tragic day exactly ten years ago this week.

Labor day ... Summer's un-officially over for most folks up north (most parks and beaches close). Summer officially lasts until Sept 23. Watching the tropics with not much of a threat to the US for quite a while as ANOTHER "protecting" trough forms off the remnants of subtropical storm Lee. Hurricane Katia will also remain FAR out to sea as a "fish storm".
