Five years ago, Hurricane Katrina devastated the northern Gulf Coast. Meanwhile I am watching the tropics for any chases in the works (ones that do not stay far out at sea).

The tropics are finally starting to get very busy as Danielle and Earl are both out there in the central tropical Atlantic. These storms most likely will NOT affect any major land, and Earl should "follow" Danielle's path near Bermuda in a few days. "Bermuda is to hurricanes" as "Oklahoma City is to tornadoes"? - In "Fish" Hurricane Alley? We need activity closer to the US, or cough up the $$ and go to Bermuda!

Tropics struggling to squeeze out any significant storm right now, and whatever forms will be recurving / open water systems (aka "fish" storms). I am praying for a non "fish" year. Danielle is way out there and should remain a central Atlantic storm far from land.

I am so happy I took this WPB contract job. I thought I would be taking days off by now for hurricanes, but all I see is shear and the "bottom of the storm 100 miles away from it's anvil top". The shear, is easterly however (an easterly jet?), kinda strange, but shear is shear, I guess. Not much in the tropics now, and probably for a while ;-(

Waiting on the tropics as of now, but it appears "Fish n' Shear" (LOL I hate the "S-Word of '09") will be the norm for a while as an East US coast trough "vaccinates" the US from anything to chase in the Atlantic. Not much else in the meantime, working a 2-3 month contract in Palm Beach and Mom's doing OK for now.

Back to work this week after a great weekend of skydiving and spending quality time with family. Wathcing the tropics as well for any chase opportunities in the upcoming month!
