Lori Ferguson luckily I was one of those "weirdos" who just put extra money aside WHEN I was working, forming my own "unemployment" in a sense. And in FL the lucky ones get a measly $275 before taxes.

I can understand the 9 month base (mine was only just under 4). But dont show your DeSantis face on TV and give millions of people losing homes, starving - and not able to pay rent - false hope.

I guess people dont like mushroom soup. Also the totinos pizzas never available either.I think this is a good time to tweak marketing strategies? Or learn what products that you make that no one likes.

Warning ... LONG post, but Interesting...

...Besides missing storms, I'd rather post this more frustrating experience about the FL Unemployment system (the MyFlorida DEO website and so called "hotline").

I lost my job back on Mar 3, working in Centennial CO at E*Trade as a W2 computer contractor, starting Thanksgiving week in 2019. Covid-19 came along, messed with the stock market, causing the company to be absorbed into Morgan Stanley, thus killing my IT job there along with 11 others.

The layoff was a direct result of the economy and Covid-19, and I was given a letter saying so, in case unemployment questions my reason for leaving, and a contact number.

Even though the physical location was in Colorado, the agency paying me and doing my placement was in Pinellas County, Florida, called S2 Solutions / Momentum near Sarasota.

After trying to sign up in Colorado for unemployment, I was directed by them (I was on hold for about an hour, but got through) to use Florida's system. This was also confirmed by my main contact at S2 / Momentum.

With all the needed paperwork, such as the EIN number, my SS number and license, etc ... I logged onto the MyFlorida DEO website and initiated a claim, around early to mid March. The first problems I was having was with my SS number - Saying it could not be "validated" at this time, but I can continue completing my claim. This would take about 5 steps.

For about a week, I was unable to get past step 2, where my license, SS number, and such was entered. I would hit "next", and I'm bumped right back into the login screen, with a check mark and re-entering my claim ID, Social, and PIN.

I would log in, get to step 1, or 2 (if lucky), only to be looped back to the check box and login screen. Sometimes a fatal error was thrown after logging in, while other times, I made it as far as step 3, entering my company's information, only to be booted back to either the login screen, or another one in Spanish and Creole, and no where to go. I tried calling their so called "hotline", only to go on hold, and be hung up on every time!

Finally, after a week and a half, I logged on at 3 AM in the morning (Eastern time), and after two tries, completed the remaining steps 4 and 5 (to submit the claim successfully)! The claim was shown in "pending" status after that, and my first two weeks to claim being at the end of march, and another early April.

I also wrote some email messages about these system issues, as well as with my claim, none of which ever were acknowledged nor answered.

In early April I log onto the system again, to claim my weeks I needed to, after the first "wait week". Again, fatal errors and disconnected sessions abounded. After another day, the system was down "for maintenance" 7 pm to 8 am. This prevented me from logging on, at good times like 3 am.

After finally logging in, at 8 am sharp, a large banner was across the login page, saying that Gov DeSantis has WAIVED both the requirements for claiming weeks, and providing work searches for each week, where one has to painfully list at least five (5) work search related companies for each week claimed.

Once I finally got on again, it showed my claim was "active" with payments "pending", showing me the 2 weeks I had to claim. I clicked on the links and was still forced to enter the check boxes (such as did you search for work, earn money, military, etc). Low and behold, I was taken to the dreaded "work search" screen, forcing me to enter all the names, phones, emails, and contacts = At least 5 for each of the 2 weeks!

Like anyone would do, I started entering them, one by one. Each web page would take almost a minute just to load, one contact search after another. At about the 3rd contact being entered, without even touching the mouse, I'm kicked out and looped back to the initial logon screen with the checkbox. I could not get on again that day without an error or being looped back to the initial screen.

I called the hotline again, and was told they cannot pull my claim due to "technical difficulties", and I can press "1" to speak to a representative. Alas, after one ring, it gave a recording of "all representatives are busy assisting other customers, and we are unable to provide a call back option - Please try again later...". After that, it took me to their automated menu, or hung up.

The following day, around April 20, their site said "...By executive order by Gov DeSantis, this page is taken down. All active claims will be paid, and no one is required to claim weeks nor provide 5 search contacts per week - Effective immediately...". I was so happy.

I check my bank over the next week, grateful to see the $1200 stimulus in there, but not a cent from Florida. After a few more days, I saw an alternate system was setup, allowing a mobile based web app to enter a claim. I entered one on there, identical to the one I did on the main DEO site. This took minutes instead of weeks!

This new claim later showed up as "resolved-completed" giving me more false hope. Still, no email confirmations, no phone follow up, and - Ofcourse - No deposits nor checks magically appearing in the mailbox on top of all the bills.

Then comes April 22, already a stressful day for me, I check the old system on the DEO site. I was expecting to see the Gov DeSantis banner, but NO ... I see the login screen with the check box! Just for kicks I log in, see the "not required to claim weeks nor the 5 contact searches" banner still there. And I had the same 2 weeks pending to claim, just as before, with April 23 as a deadline.

I clicked each of them, having to do it all over again. Luckily the pages were loading faster, probably because if the new servers FL added, and was able to get all the questions answered, and 5 work search contacts for each of the weeks. I saved and submitted them.

The next day I logged in again, and checked to see if anything changed. It still said payment was "pending" and that the claim itself was "active", and a disregard amount" of $58, not sure what that was. There was a link saying that an "issue" was found with my claim. I clicked on it, and it said "an un-resolvable eligibility issue" was found with my claim and denied payment for those weeks!

Later I logged in again, and that message was gone. I confirmed my eligibility again with S2 / Momentum, and was given a contact number and fax of the certified letter, hopefully to give to someone on the DEO "hotline", to whom I simply could not get through to.

Today (Fri Apr 24) I log on to my bank account. Nothing deposited, and just more bills in the mailbox. I checked the DEO site the same morning, and this time it says "...The system is down for maintenance in order to process claims..." until Monday. Great.

I log onto their so called "new" alternative mobile system, and the claim there still says "resolved-completed". A Google search on "FL Unemployment" yielded countless news articles on how Florida's unemployed are fighting tooth and nail for a measley $275 a week, a rate the same as it was in 1992, and the lowest in the USA.

Countless articles state the claiming of weeks and 5 work searches for each of them is waived through mid May ... But you log into MyFlorida DEO and you are still forced to enter all of them. Then one day the website says one thing, then another day something different.

And Gov DeSantis had the nerve to say those with any claim from Covid-19, even gig workers, and 1099 included, will receive benefits - Including retro active pay going back to their "separation date" from their company.

Bullshit. Lies! Lies! Lies!

Among the Google searches are also some down right sad stories. People have lost houses, got evicted because they could not pay rent. A woman supporting a family cannot buy groceries or medicines. Yet they try to log on to that system, getting looped back, hung up on, and dropped = All with a huge pile of bills over their shoulder on the table.

Lucky for me I have money in savings so I do not have these dire problems - Yet. I really feel for those poor souls trusting a government and system that is so corrupt and hypocritical in nature. We try to lean on someone for help, and it just ain't happening, despite any zeal :(

Tony Mesias I know but I'm starting to fear more closures and red tape AFTER this quiet pattern next week.

Posted: Apr 24, 2020, 3:37 PM

Sky-Chaser Chris Collura replied to Bob Henson's comment.

John Monteverdi I dont listen to anything he says anymore either.

I trusted (keep in mind "trusted" is past tense) our government in Florida, particularly with well deserved unemployment.

Dealing with an unstable website, cold line (no hotline) to call and get dropped, and taking almost two months to get my claim in. Never a single dime, despite multiple claims on their old POS system and the so called "new" one.

Just this week I see my claim was denied ... For nearly ALL the reasons the governor of FL promised otherwise (saying we all get it cuz of this crisis).

Also, he clearly said the main website was taken down, and everyone automatically would get benefits, and that they no longer have to claim weeks nor enter work search contacts.

Then I go on, and the website was back the way it was before, requiring me to sign in, and, and only IF, I can get in, painfully claim each work week and search contacts. The same long and cumbersome process he said was no longer on the unemployment system site!

So there I go, entering the weeks and signing up, filling out, getting kicked out many times and starting all over again ... and alas, I'm declared ineligible.

And yes, my former employer in FL clearly stated I am fully eligible since it was W2 work and the layoff was directly related to Covid-19 ... Even providing a certified letter stating such and number to fax or give to the hotline that I can never get through at.

Aka, yes = DeSantis LIED too.

Sky-Chaser Chris Collura is feeling fed up.

Looks like more storms today and a pretty good shot at tornadoes in NE Texas by dusk. I'm still not out there and its testing my patience very badly.

Wednesday left a huge open wound, and tornadoes today would be like putting lye in it...

...If I was able to go fly out there for Wednesday, I still would theoretically be there (until Sat or so). Definitely not a good year for me.

I'm wondering that myself. And hoping too since I'll have better immunity and did not have contact with many ... But back in early January I had flu and quickly shook it off. THEN came early February...

...This one was very strange, not the typical flu, which I never get TWICE in a year, or was it?

This second "flu like illness" started out as a cough, then came the fevers and chills, and nasty aches. And lasted far longer ... until mid to late Feb. Occasional diarrhea and the really annoying thing was that feeling of passing out when I coughed. I was scared, but blamed it on the altitude in Denver.

Even more strange, the cough and weakness lasted for a month, with the cough tapering off slowly - In fact, finally ending for good by late March!!!!

What was this???

Posted: Apr 22, 2020, 8:39 AM

Sky-Chaser Chris Collura replied to Philip Flory's comment.

Charles Edwards Its so typical. I have no need to really travel and an air ticket from S Florida to S California was like $113 round trip last week. Once I looked at prices yesterday to Texas it was like $600.

That's not what stopped me since I have tons of airline miles. The fact of self quarantining for 14 days in Texas lockdown was what discouraged me.

I would have drove out couple days ago but didnt feel like doint that just for one setup then at least a week long ridge to wait out. Definitely May.

So yes, coronavirus DOES "affect" chasing.

It appears tomorrow (Wednesday 4/22) is gonna be my first butt-hurt day of regretting not going out. Could not fly in (not an option with CV) and did not make the decision to drive out 1000+ miles just for a one-day setup followed by a week of ridging. Yeah, 'ts gonna hurt.

Officially next week I will begin my storm chasing regardless, as soon as it picks back up. Good luck to all of those headed out tomorrow near the I-35 corridor in N/C Texas. Also, Thursday the system tracks into the deep south - Again.

I decided to hold off on chasing this week, knowing Wednesday might be a particularly good day in Texas. Mainly since after that, the deep south and SE USA sees storms racing east, then at least a week-long quiet pattern for the central USA. Not worth a trip just yet.

Flying out there is not a good idea either. Not only are the $49 each way airfares now $259 each way, but there is a restriction and quarantine period there anyways, despite having air points up the yin yang. Hopefully come early May my trip to chase will start.

In the meantime, back into my Covid-19 "fox hole" / man cave :[

For all who caught tornadoes today = Big congrats.

As for the coronavirus, it ain't changing my storm chasing plans at this point. I didnt chase today but will be heading out in a week or two.

Call me crazy, fine.

The probability of getting this virus in the country's mid section is LESS than in major cities, including NY and much of Florida.

So yell and scream at me if you want. I dont care. I lost my job, what family I had resents me (my dad even blames loss of my job on me, including the way I dress, or such). Plus there is no skydiving. No eating out. No beach. Not even church.

Please send me a PM if you want to start an argument, or comment. I'm not checking on here until storm chasing is underway.

Plus not everyone with Covid-19 gets that fate. Less than 3%, most likely elderly, pre existing diabetes or cancer, etc. I'm actually more concerned about my dad, he goes I'll be not chasing, paying all his expenses and such, but that's a whole other issue.

Chris Collura replied to Mike Hardiman's comment.

Mike Hardiman Tim Marshall and I are similar. The central USA is far safer than places like Florida and certainly New York. Remember, this took almost everything we all enjoy (for me even church and skydiving) away from most of us (outside of couch potatoes) ... so yeah, chasing is the only thing really left. Fortunately.

Chris Collura is feeling pained.

With all this negative crap, bad news, and a staggering four or five copyright complaints (mostly on videos that have been up for almost a decade) ALL this week ... You all can embellish in the gloom and doom of COVID-19 while I will remain OFF this site UNTIL I am actively chasing storms. I will not comment nor deal with FaceBook if people are going to act this way. Grow up!

Also, my YouTube channel is ad-free ... But if you go on there, view one of my videos, and see ads - That's why. Because someone claimed content on it. So just wait 15 seconds on those videos and trust me, you'll eventually see mine.

In light of all this DOOM going on, I have been hard at work editing down cool videos to share. Yet no one I personally sent anything to replied with a simple "that's cool" … Then I DID see a copyright infringement email from a YouTube video from 2004, long - LONG - time ago - Where no one said "boo" about. And just today, I mix down a cool skydiving video, the same one no one even looked at on my PM's, and that DID get "attention" - Within 3 minutes of posting it - Telling me it's muted for content that's not mine. I fully credited any music. Come f'cking on.This video has been REMOVED - Not my problem - Bitch to FB if you cannot see it :/
