Skydiving belly-to-earth is one thing, but go head-first with arms at your side and things get really interesting. In aviation, attitude means 'position' or 'orientation' (far from what we use that word for in other night life or dating contexts). Changing attitude (such as going from belly-flying to head-first) causes a VERY big change in airspeed in a skydive. In this jump, simply going head-first for 15-20 seconds allowed me to reach 231 MPH - About as fast as a formula one dragster (or even funny car) - With NO engine - Just me and gravity!

So cool seeing my "landing area" (yes, it's that 'lil "dot" below the arrow) before jumping from 14,500 feet on a beautiful day in Florida. So cool passing through that post frontal inversion at 5,000' or so ... Crystal clear above it, then the air suddenly gets cold and you smell the sugar cane burning and haze! Feeling the air get colder suddenly is the temp inversion - That's when I go from the clean subsidence aloft and punch into the "airmass from Canada" ;-) Cool air sinks and warm air rises!

Memorial ash-spreading (ash plume visible in top of image) from a deceased skydiver who perished in a ultra-light plane crash (non skydiving related) at Skydive Chicago (Aug 9, 2014). The cremated remains were dispersed from his wife doing a tandem jump. In this picture, the break-away and opening of the big way can be seen with the ash plume above the jumpers (over a mile above Skydive Chicago).

July 6, 2019 over Rochelle, Illinois during the CSC Independance Boogie and exiting a R44 helicopter with two other jumpers. Exit was around 4,000 feet AGL with a planned opening at 2,500 or so. Baglock malfunction. View to the left is the reserve opening and deployment bag for my main as I'm grabbing it to the right. Yeah in hind sight I should have cut away (debatable when there's nothing out as this is a high speed malfunction at 2,500 feet AGL and there's little time). I went straight for the D ring and just threw it to China, and was awarded with this beautiful blue reserve over my head to the right, while stowing my main (which never came out) in it's D bag between my legs.
