Simply going to 'dinner and a movie' became far more dangerous in Colorado this week than skydiving in the eye of a hurricane (statistically that is). Please, Mr Michael Malinconico - Keep your MOUTH SHUT on this one (I'm sure you had your pleasure watching CNN the past few days). This is a pure MONSTER who did this, evil as much as a terrorist. This composite image shows the flags at my skydiving facility at half mast, overlaid to INNOCENT folks at a movie - I HOPE this gets some sort of message across. God bless us all.

With the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific tropical seasons struggling to generate a strong hurricane, a different scenario of violence unfolds a half-a-world away in the Western Pacific with Typhoon "Samba". Formerly a category 5 storm, with 170+ MPH sustained winds (gusts over 205 MPH), the storm slammed ashore during the morning of September 15, 2012 on the small island of Okinawa. Although far away, I know some storm chasers in that area who were there, mainly James Reynolds who lives in Hong Kong. As of the morning (local time), the eastern portion of Okinawa can be seen looking down through the vertical structure of the clear eye, and I can only wonder what anyone there is seeing (a "stadium effect"? Fog? No wind?) ... The storm came in at 120 MPH sustained winds - Very impressive indeed.

Ocean front off Grand Isle, Louisiana caused by the silt laden fresh water of the Mississippi River meeting the saltier waters (blue) of the Gulf of Mexico. The two don't mix well because of differences in density. The structures in the water are oil platforms (view if from an airliner at about 36,000 feet).

A sunset captured by a NWS Radar Site looks like this ... A ray extending outward in the direction of the sun. This is caused by the sun's radio waves (along with visible light and other forms of radiation) entering the radar antenna and "fooling" it into thinking it's precipitation.

Black Friday often means "bargains and discounts"? Not necessarily, unless some violent folks get a discount on their hospital / emergency bills.

Knives, a stabbing, and a dead man in a fountain ... Tis' the season to by jolly ... A few years back on Black Friday I remember a road rage incident where someone wound up ripping their windshield wipers off. All over a parking spot.

One day I was crying in the 4th grade at Cherokee Elementary school - My favorite lunch box was GONE. I asked a few people for it - No one knew ... Then the school bully came up to me - Ha ha ha!! Someone BURIED it ... I cried more - Then thought about THIS (the picture / diagram) - Earth science rock layers - And my lunch box embedded in the ground and part of the earth - Forever (sigh)! Bad kids!!

Not the best quality picture, but it clearly shows the "noctilucent" (Latin for "glowing at night") cloud looming high over the East-Central Florida coast during the evening of August 7, 2013. This is not a natural cloud, but part of a vapor (or "chem") trail plume left by a Delta rocket launch. The picture here was taken from west of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, quite far from the launch site (Cape Canaveral). Being at an altitude of about 50 miles up (at least 250,000 feet), the cloud is still in bright sunlight (above the dusk terminator), making it shine in the "night" sky (reflected sunlight). It also appears high in the sky despite being at least 150 miles away!

Why do we all have to put up with this crap?1). People losing their jobs for every little thing done wrong?2). People who simply do not want to work and / or not do their job (and get canned)?I can safely assume #2 in this case :-(

What does a computer "Bug" actually look like? ... Here is an example: The 'Close Databases' statement was not supposed to be there...... Ofcourse, there he is, BMK in the comments @[1438695261:2048:Mona Lowenthal Krimsky] probably knows all too well.Ofcourse FINDING the bug took hours of my time - I thought I was a hero, then got a 1 hour lecture and scolding on why I interrupted my boss to show a mistake in his code.No good deed goes un punished - I just walked out and went home (my stomach hurt). Tough luck BMK...

Anyone know that these two distant "stars" are in this image? This is the view of the Earth and the Moon from near Saturn's rings (the rings making the sky appear dark blue) a billion miles away from the Cassini space probe in July 2013. Yes ... All our children, plants, life, celebrations, wars, achievements are on the little 'bluish white' dot to the left.We are very small indeed (sigh).

The tropics has appeared to finally shut down for good for 2013 - After the most disappointing season I've seen since the 80's (if that). So that famous 'fat lady singing' thread appears again (sigh)... LOL ... She's not singing a happy song as 2013 didn't have much in this (western) hemisphere - It must be the Blues ;-) I think she was singing since June 1 and we did not want to hear it!

Location of a few storm chasers (some from the states) in Palo / Tacloban City in the East-Central Philippines (SW of Samar) with SuperTyphoon Haiyan approaching. I see the airport would'nt stand much of a chance being on a peninsula - I worry for these folks safety (I'd be scared too if I was there) - But at the same time I'm envy cuz I'm NOT there.

Back here in Florida Palm Beach County got $100 out of me for not having a sticker on the right side of the PWC (SeaDoo) in addition to the left - never heard of numbers having to be on both sides. Never got a ticket (for a boat) on LAND.

Got a chuckle passing this gas station and right away I see people would be like "Oh wow - 3.39 - cheap!" and COMMITT to pulling in, and begin to fill up - Then they see RED because it says 3.59 on their pump ... Look closely at the sign! Who would get a car-wash anyway when it's 15 degrees out? I am sure @[1267634230:2048:Jason Foster] can also see what I am talking about :)

Posted: Jan 15, 2014, 4:49 PM

Feeling a bit stressed? blue? I am - Some thugs broke into my apartment today (2/18) and trashed the place (while I was away on business). Prozac? Drugs? Naaah - Don't want "fatality" or diabetes as a side effect! My good ol'e Italian red wine. One or two glasses - And the problems go AWAY ;-)

Brief view of the edge of Bertha hundreds of miles to the east of Florida through breaks in convection (trough is in foreground) from an airliner 40,000 feet over the FL east coast. At least I saw her...

Interesting radar (reflectivity) out of the big Island of Hawaii early on 8/8 as Iselle makes landfall as a strong tropical storm. Note the heavy rains but the high terrain causes no radar coverage west and NW of the radar site. I wonder how the 14,000 foot volcanic summits are affected by this?
